It's been over a year since I first wrote about Seam and enough has changed over that time to provide a refresh of the entry. Last month JBoss released version 4.2 of its application server, a release JBoss refers to as a "stepping stone from JBoss 4.0 to JBoss 5.0". One notable difference with JBoss 4.2 is that is now uses the JSF Reference Implementation from GlassFish rather than the Apache MyFaces implementation, which makes porting an application between the 2 servers all the more straight-forward.... more »

The jMaki team keeps making great changes to the technology, but sometimes it is hard to keep up with all the changes. I have finally gotten a working version of the latest jMaki-wrapped Spry Accordion. I think that this API will be stable for awhile, so now is a good time to post some instructions on how to use the Spry Accordion in a NetBeans 5.5.1 Visual Web project using the latest NetBeans jMaki plug-in (1.6.9.9.9.5), which bundles jMaki 0.9.7.... more »

I downloaded the new development version of NetBeans 6.0 (actually in M10) just for the kicks. I wanted to see if the new Ruby on Rails editing was any good, and I was recently surprised so. But not so much for the excellent Rails support, but rather for the new SWING look.... more »

Finally, the entry about PHP. Well, I don't think PHP needs to be introduced, but, on the other hand, some of you might not know yet that there is a Java 100% PHP 5 implementation called Quercus, from the sameguys that provide the Resin application server (Caucho Technologies). Quercus not only implements the core PHP 5 but also many extensions and it even allows you to integrate your Java code with it, so here we go with our example:... more »

Oh well, the next entry was supposed to be about PHP, but thanks to a comment from Suhail Manzoor about the JavaScript version, I found out another way to do it without using concatenation of strings. So here it is the second version using JavaScript (Rhino) but this time we will use ECMAScript for XML (E4X) to build the XML more easily.... more »
