Which version of the Exam Should I take SCJP 1.4 or SCJP 1.5 or SCJP 1.6?

This article is originally posted in SCJP Group by Satya Narayanan

My suggestion is to take SCJP 1.5 because both the exam has the same fees(to write the exam). Also SCJP 1.5 is latest and will give a edge over others(who have taken SCJP 1.4 or earlier). If you are looking for a job , you can take the SCJP 1.5 exam , as it will give your resume more value. if you are in a job , then you can take either SCJP 1.5 or SCJP 1.6.

In most the companies JDk5.0 is used . Even in our company we are using only jdk 5.0. My project Manager even suggested me to attempt SCJP 1.5 instead of SCJP 1.4 ,as it will help to develop code in Jdk5.0 effectively and efficiently.

The SCJP 1.5 contains more syllabus than SCJP 1.4 like auto boxing, for each loop , WeakHashMap etc... Now the latest SCJP version 1.6 which has extra syllabus than 1.5 like garbage collection ,java.util.NavigableSet etc..,

As you have prepared for SCJP 1.4 , you need to prepare only few other things(as mentioned) to write SCJP1.5.The SCJP 1.5 has more passing percentage.

SCJP 1.5 Syllabus=SCJP 1.4 Syllabus + Addtional Syllabus for SCJP 1.5

SCJP 1.6=SCJP 1.5 Syllabus + Addtional Syllabus for SCJP 1.6

so , your preparation for SCJP 1.4 will also help you in the preparation for SCJP 1.5 or 1.6
