What is Sun Certified Web Component Developer(SCWCD) Exam?

The Sun Certified Web Component Developer for J2EE Platform certification exam is for Sun Certified Programmers (any edition) who are using the Java technology servlet and Java Server Pages (JSP) application program interface (APIs) to develop Web applications.

What is Current version of SCWCD?

Current version is SCWCD 1.4 and will be avilable for a long time. There is no plan to update the SCWCD exam(Java 5 version of the exam). The current exam will still be available for another year. The last version of SCWCD is 1.3 and it is not available in the market.

Who is conducting the exam?

Certification is provided by Sun Micro Systems Inc. Sun has autthorised prometric centers in all the cities for conducting exams. You need not take the voucher from Sun's official website. You can collect the voucher from any of the authorised prometric center near by your location. (Indian users can search your location at prometric centers in india).

Are there any pre-requisites for appearing for the SCWCD exam?

Prior to beginning the Sun Certified Web Component Developer program, you must be a Sun Certified Programmer for the Java platform (any edition). The following are the list of versions available for SCJP exams:

What is the cost of the exam?

In the US it's $200.00 (it was only $150 until July '06). For other countries, please contact your local Sun office. In India the cost of SCWCD exam would be in the range of Rs.6000 to Rs.7500. It varies based on discounts available.

What is the procedure to take the exam?

How do I schedule the exam?

Once you obtain the voucher, it can then be redeemed by signing up for the test at Prometric which is done by making an appointment for specific date and time. The voucher cannot be refunded back for your money, but it can be transferred.

What type of questions are asked in the test?

  • Multiple-Choice Questions with a Single-Response Answer represented by radio button
  • Multiple-Choice Questions with Multiple-Response Answers represented by check boxes

If I fail or barely pass, can I retake the exam?

Yes. You will need to buy another voucher and , according to Sun's policy, need to wait at least two weeks before taking the exam again.

How much time will it take to prepare for SCWCD exam?

This will depend on how much experience you have in servlets and JSP and your prior programming experience. Assuming you have some basic experience in Servlets and/or JSP, you can probably prepare for the certification exam in four to eight weeks.
